The postmodern sage has no use for the mountain. His retreat from the herd is imperceptible. We find him on skid row and among the mansions of Bel-Air. His contemporaneity is his well-kept secret. He is never seen, never sought out. His wisdom will always be assimilated only by those to whom he wills it. And why are these inevitably so few? Because one must first be predisposed to the comprehension of signifiers that point exclusively to higher realities. In a word, one must be ready for the apocalypse.
